Trump has totally unleashed against Harvard

US President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw the Tax facilities that the Harvard University benefits, an institution that had refused to meet some requirements on Monday, AFP reports.

The Washington government has already withdrawn to the respective university the multiannual federal subsidies worth $ 2.2 billion.

« Perhaps Harvard should lose his tax exemptions and be taxed as a political entity, if he continues to support his political, ideological, inspired by terrorism / who supports him, » Trump wrote in his Social Truth network.

The university, based near Boston, is a private institution with a heritage of over $ 50 billion and is exempted from taxes by both the US Federal and Massachusetts.

At Harvard, as in other American higher education institutions, students mobilized against the war carried by Israel in the Gaza strip. After Trump’s return to the White House, such situations came to the government’s attention.

The president accused the respective universities of allowing the proliferation of anti-Semitism on campuses, and the executive asked them to implement more measures, including an « audience » of the opinions of the students and of the teaching staff. In case of refusal, their subsidies would be cut.

Unlike Colombia University in New York, Harvard refused. The President of the University, Allan Garber, gave assurances, in a letter addressed to students and teachers Monday, that Harvard will not give up « neither independence nor the rights guaranteed by the Constitution ».
