Trump announces a Boeing contract for the future F-47 fighter aircraft

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday the signing of a contract with the Boeing concern for new generation fighter jets, called F-47, AFP reports.

More efficient, the new aircraft will replace the previous generation F-22 Raptor produced by Lockheed Martin and for about 20 years.

« Air Force will award the contract (…) to Boeing, » announced the US president in the Oval Office, in front of the reporters, specifying that, for security reasons, the amount of the contract cannot be disclosed.

'Nothing in the world can compete with this new generation of planes, F-47, gave Trump insurance.

'The generals have chosen this name and is a nice name, F-47', said the 47th president of the United States.

This announcement is a mouthful of oxygen for Boeing, which crosses a deep crisis from last year due to quality problems of its production and a strike of over 50 days that paralyzed the main two factories.

Around 16.25 GMT, Boeing shares went up to the New York Stock Exchange on Friday, reaching $ 181.09.

The American program aiming to replace the F-22 plane had been interrupted in 2024 under the Biden administration, for cost reasons, a major concern of the Trump administration, which was mandated on billionaire Elon Musk to drastically reduce government expenses.

Congressional Budget Office, an body attached to Congress, had estimated in 2018 that new generation aircraft could cost up to $ 300 million each, which is more than more planes in the current endowment of American forces.
