Trump announces 100% rates on foreign films
The US President has announced that he will start “immediately the 100%tariff process” about the US-produced films in the US but produced abroad.
« The American film industry is dying very quickly … Hollywood and many other parts of the United States are devastated, » Donald Trump wrote on Sunday on the social network Truth Social.
« Other countries are offering all kinds of incentives to attract our filmmakers and studios away from the United States, » he added. Trump said this is a “concerted effort from other nations” that represents “a threat to US national security”.
To date, no details were advanced on the conditions of applying overcutting on movies produced abroad. This is the latest episode in the commercial offensive released by the US president against US economic partners.
China, against which Donald Trump directs most of the arrows, announced in early April that he will “moderately” the number of US films officially screened in Chinese territory, as one of the responses to the tariffs imposed by the United States to Asian products.
Beijing uses a quota system to limit the number of foreign films officially screened in movie theaters. A reduction in access to this market, the second largest in the world following the United States for cinema, can affect the recipes of Hollywood studios.
