The duty will start to apply from April 2.
Washington. US President Donald Trump On Monday he announced that he would introduce a 25 % corporal duty for each country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela. This « secondary duty » will come into effect on April 2, said Truth Social in the social network.
Since January, when Trump returned to the White House, he has introduced customs duties for American allies and enemies in an effort to strengthen the economy through a financial mechanism.
« Venezuela was very hostile to the United States and freedoms we profess, » Truth Social wrote on his social network.
« Therefore, any country that buys oil and/or gas from Venezuela will be forced to pay the United States of CLO of 25 % for any trade that will carry out our country. »
Trump said that the United States would introduce secondary duties to countries buying Venezuelan oil « for many reasons, including the fact that it has sent tens of thousands of criminals to the United States ».
« All documentation will be signed and registered and duties will come into effect on April 2, 2025, on the day of the US liberation, » Trump wrote.
Thus, Trump indicates the day when reciprocal duties are to come into force for all who have introduced duty on imports from the US. He wants to « correct practices in a business that Washington considers unfair ».
Trump has already imposed duties on the main business partners including China, Canada and Mexicoand, as a reason, cited an imbalance in trade and their inability to stop the inflow of deadly fentanyl into the United States.
At the beginning of March, the US provided the Energy Giant Chevron for one month to stop their operations in Venezuela, which will set a difficult blow to the country that struggles with a lack of money.
