Trump, about the EU proposal on customs duties
Donald Trump said Monday that the proposal made by the European Union for a total and mutual customs relief for industrial products, including cars, is not enough to raise US customs duties, writes AFP.
« No, it is not enough, » he said, asked about this proposal announced Monday by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during an exchange of opinions with the white house.
« The European Union has behaved very, very bad with us, » added the US president who announced last week a protectionist offensive in all directions, including a 20% tax on European products, to be in force on April 9.
He assured that the commercial deficit accused by the United States with the EU will disappear quickly ‘due to the increase of American energy acquisitions by European countries.
« You have to buy and engage in buying an equivalent (with this commercial deficit) in energy, » Donald Trump said again.
‘We have offered taxes + zero for zero + for industrial goods (…) Europe is always prepared for a good agreement, Ursula von der Leyen said in a press conference in Brussels.
‘But we are also prepared to respond with countermeasures and defend our interests in front of Donald Trump’s commercial offensive, warned the head of the European Executive.
