Trucking trucks in Belgium and France cheaper

The fuel sales in Luxembourg continues the downward trend that started in 2019. This is announced by the Statec statistics authority in its monthly economic report on Tuesday. In the first four months of 2025, sales fell by almost four percent compared to the same period last year. This decline is due to diesel sales, which declined by more than seven percent in the same period.

Statec explains: On the one hand, the number of diesel cars in the Luxembourg fleet continuously decreases, on the other hand, the price gradient to the border countries has gradually reduced in recent years, in particular due to the continuous increase in CO₂ tax in Luxembourg. This contributed significantly to the achievement of the climate goals. With diesel fuel for commercial purposes, according to Statec, the price difference has even been reversed, since it is now cheaper in Belgium and France than in Luxembourg.

While Luxembourg’s petrol stations sell less diesel, however, the sale of gasoline rose by six percent at the beginning of the year. « The increase is primarily due to the emergence of hybrid cars, which are mostly equipped with petrol engines as a supplement to your electric motor, » says Statec.
