Trucker (35) who drove under the influence arrested after an accident in which 2-year-old daughter was seriously injured (Wijnegem)
The investigating judge decided on Tuesday to keep the 35-year-old trucker DN on suspicion of unintentional blows and injuries in traffic. In the accident, his 2-year-old daughter was extremely injured. The truck driver took a positive breath test.
The accident happened on Sunday evening on the Houtlaan in Wijnegem. The 35-year-old trucker DN was on his way with his truck to drop his 2-year-old daughter Elisa with her mother in Malle. Afterwards he would continue to his work in Schoten, where he had to deliver a load of animal feed to a customer in the evening.
Artificial coma
Due to unknown reason, D. lost control of the steering wheel. His truck went through the central reservation, scamped a lighting pole and drove out a large tree. That tree crushed the windshield of the cabin on the passenger side, where Elisa was. The girl was seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital in danger. Elisa had sustained a skull and a brain haemorrhage. The girl’s condition was still criticism on Monday evening, but she is held in an artificial coma.
Unintentional success and injuries
After the accident, the truck driver had a positive alcohol test. He drove under the influence of alcohol while he was on his way with his daughter. D. was brought before the investigating judge on Tuesday. He decided to maintain the trucker on suspicion of unintentional success and injuries in traffic. The man appears before the council chamber on Friday. DN has already been convicted four times for driving under the influence of alcohol. He currently had no driving ban, but there are previous facts.
