President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova nominated prof. Dr. Trajko Slaveski as a new Governor of the National Bank, confirmed tonight by the President’s Cabinet.

Slaveski, who is the current chair of the City Council of Skopje, is a university professor at the Faculty of Economics in Skopje and a former Minister of Finance.

The president has already submitted her proposal to the Parliament, which the new Governor of the National Bank should elect a plenary session with a simple majority.

– When the decision is made, the president was guided by the expertise and competence, dignity and integrity, as well as the real opportunity to appoint the candidate. We would like to emphasize that the election was difficult, given the proven quality of all candidates – say the president’s office.

The Parliamentary Press Service confirms that the proposal has been submitted to the Parliament’s report.

Siljanovska Davkova announced earlier in a statement to the media that she would submit the proposal today before leaving for Italy.

– While in office you should forget about party influences and get the challenge of the profession. By law, the function is incoperable with party membership. We have had a remarkable governor, Petar Goshev, who was president of the party, so there was no problem – said the president of a journalist question whether he was winning the law as some candidates have to do with the parties.

The professor of the Faculty of Economics in Skopje Trajko Slaveski was among the three most serious candidates mentioned, in addition to current governor Anita Angelovska-Bezoska, and former Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski.

Angelovska Bezoska’s term expires tomorrow.

Angelovska Bezoska took office on May 22, 2018.

The position of Governor of the Central Bank in front of Angelovska Bezhovska was held by Dimitar Bogov (2011-2018), and previously Petar Goshev (2004-2011), Ljube Trpeski (1997-2004) and Borko Stanoevski (1986-1997).
