‘Traitor’ star received a call that turned everything upside down
For many young people it is a distant dream to work with Disney. But for the dancer Nicky Andersen, it became reality as a mere 19-year-old.
He was given a sought -after role as assistant choreographer on the feature film Aladdin – and suddenly he was in London with Will Smith and World Star’s Dance Steps as everyday life.
But in the midst of the success he received a call that turned everything upside down.
This is how it writes Look and hear.
Got the worst possible message
While Nicky knuckled six days a week with dance and recordings, his father in Denmark was affected by a cancer diagnosis.
The distance between the stage light in London and the family care at home suddenly became incomprehensible.
« You live in a bit of that contrast. On the one hand, you live your dream, and on the other, it’s your worst nightmare, » Nicky says.
As a 19-year-old, he felt split between following his passion or traveling home to be with the family. It was especially the physical absence that hurt.
His parents couldn’t visit him and he couldn’t be present and support – something that still touches him deeply.
Father’s support became crucial
But it was the father’s own words that helped Nicky make the decision.
« I was ready to say, » Fuck Disney, « and go home to my dad, but it was actually him who pushed me and said he would be disappointed if I didn’t stay in London and lived out my dream because he knew that’s what I wanted, » Nicky says honestly.
Fortunately, the father was later declared cancer -free and Nicky looks back on the experience with gratitude.
