Traffic expert on Old Zagorje: ‘Unfortunately people only respond to penalties’

In one day, as many as three people lost their lives on Croatian Roads, two of whom were killed on the old Zagorje road. In just two days, two accidents with the death outcome occurred on the same road.

A permanent court expert in traffic, Krunoslav Ormuz commented on Dnevnik.hr, two accidents with a total of four death cases on the old Zagorje road and an increase in the number of motorcyclists on the roads.

– Unfortunately, most traffic accidents are caused by a driver’s fault or a sudden failure of the vehicle. After 30 years of experience, I can say that people only respond to penalties – the Ormuz said.

He also emphasized the growth of the number of motorcyclists on the roads, one of the most vulnerable groups. He says 71 deaths were recorded last year by a motorcyclist or a motorcycle co -driver.

– The vast majority were killed by their fault, most often because of improper speed. The problem is that many motorcyclists do not have adequate protective equipment – he added.

He emphasized that people often invest large sums in motorcycles themselves, as they save on their own safety.

– A good motorcycle costs around 15,000 euros, and the equipment that should be on the driver and that can save life, say a jacket for inflatable or quality jeans cost about 1500 to 2000 euros. It is amazing to me that someone is ready to spend a bunch of money on a motorcycle, and a tenth of money is not ready to invest in his own safety, « Ormuz said.
