Traditional Easter products and treats in Germany are significantly more expensive in 2025.
The celebration of Easter holidays in Germany this year is accompanied by higher costs for traditional holiday goods such as painted eggs and chocolate products, according to the Federal Statistical Service of the country « Destatis », quoted by the DPA.
According to the data, consumer prices of many of the typical foods have increased significantly, which is another year with a sharp rise in prices.
One of the few exceptions is the price of eggs, which in March 2025 were « only » 2.5 percent more expensive than the same month of the previous year. However, in the long run, between 2020 and 2024, their prices increased by 38.5 percent.
Nearly 40% appreciation of chocolate products
Chocolate products make a significantly more serious increase – by 39.9 percent for the same period. This is above the average appreciation of all food products (33.2 percent) and a significantly above total increase in consumer prices (19.3 percent), including energy costs, rents and other necessities.

In the first months of 2025 alone, chocolate was 16.7 percent more expensive than the same period of the previous year.
Inflation also affects homemade Easter desserts. Almost all the main ingredients for the traditional Easter pastry have risen. For example, the oil was 23.3 percent more expensive in March than the same month of 2024.
An exception to this trend is sugar, the price of which has decreased by 26.1 percent on an annual basis, according to the statistical service.
