ACOD Spoor and ACV transcom, the two largest trade unions at the railway, kicked off their strike calendar on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. with a 24-hour strike. Due to the strike action, half of the IC trains will be canceled on Monday. The alternative timetable can be consulted via the online travel planner of the NMBS.

In addition to half of the IC trains, Monday 2 will ride on the 5 L and Opstadelijk S-trains. There will also be virtually no P-trains. The 24 time strike also has consequences for international train traffic. For example, there will be fewer Eurostars and there are fewer trains to and from the Netherlands.
The two rail unions have a total of eighteen strike days on the agenda up to and including July. They oppose a series of measures that the federal government is planning, such as a higher retirement age and savings at the NMBS.
NMBS, Infrabel and HR Rail regret that the trade unions stick to their strike plans, « despite the consultations » that have been taking place with the competent federal ministers since the past week. After that consultation, on Wednesday, the unions said that they see little negotiation margin for pensions.
Later this month even more train nuisance is expected. The small trade union Metispprotect wants to strike from Sunday evening 23 to 30 March. That strike will turn in turn: the affiliated train drivers will pay off the strike days with the train counselors.
And on March 31, another strike from ACOD Spoor and ACV transcom is planned. They then join the general strike of ABVV and ACV.
