Totes newborn in Moselle: Mother under suspicion

After Fund of a baby -old in the German Moselle town of Mehring the young mother is under urgent suspicion of crime. She is said to have killed the infant shortly after birth, said the police and public prosecutor’s office in Trier. The young woman was shown to a judge who ordered the accommodation in a psychiatric hospital for suspected a homicide.

The police and emergency services were called to an apartment in Mehring in the Trier-Saarburg district on Thursday morning. However, they could no longer help the newborn. It turned out that a young woman had probably gave birth to the baby alone a few hours earlier. According to the results of the forensic medical examination, the baby initially lived and was then killed according to the previous findings.

The investigators continued to provide no precise information about the more detailed circumstances of the crime and the age of the young woman. The police described them as adolescents, which in the legal sense means an age between the ages of 18 and 21. The presumption of innocence applies until a conviction.
