Tomasevic: ‘As of today, free transportation for young people, we also announce a new competition for apartments’
Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic announced on Tuesday the announcement of a new tender for renting city apartments based on a socioeconomic status, and recalled that today free public transportation is available for 120,000 under 18 years of age.
The apartments will be assigned to be released, but also that a new one is built, the mayor said at a press conference.
During the competition on the ground floor of the building on Stjepan Radic Square, an Infopult for help to the applicants will be organized.
He also announced that after the end of this competition would be followed by a new one for a affordable rent. He explained the difference between these two models, pointing out that social rental households whose revenues per member does not exceed 30 percent of the average monthly net salary in Zagreb, while the criteria are slightly different for singles.
« According to the 2024 data, the revenue of a household member for social rent should not exceed 430 euros, while for the boundaries the limit is 722 euros. The affordable rent is provided for citizens with higher incomes, but still below a particular border, » he explained.
Tomasevic emphasized that Zagreb continuously renovates and remodges the city apartments to re -put them into operation and a decision was made to limit the right to city apartments to those who have above -average salaries.
The mayor pointed out that from today, 120,000 children and young people have the right to free public transport « Last year, we have made free transportation for 160,000 over 65 years of age, and now we expand it to children and young people, which means that more than a third of Zagreb residents do not have to pay tickets, » he emphasized.
Tomorrow’s surrender of a corrected proposal of GUP
Tomasevic responded to the appeal of the Zagreb architects, which called for a cessation, as they said, the political « grip » of the GUP and urged that the document, which they consider key to the future of the city, ceased to be the subject of political arguments.
« I called that Mrcvanje from the Perspective of the Ministry that happens to the City with regard to a series of meetings held, and yet the Ministry found some additional remarks that were not presented at these meetings, or when a written proposal for the GUP was sent to them before he went to publicly discussed, » the mayor said.
He added that the Ministry, if it wanted something to refine, could say it on time.

Talking about the landfill Jakuševec, he said he would not give up his existing location despite criticism.
« For 20 years, we have been listening to the promises of closing Jakuševac, but no one offers an alternative. This is the best possible location, located in the industrial zone, and the City of Zagreb cannot lose for another three years looking for a new one, » Tomasevic concluded.
Deputy Mayor Danijela Dolenc referred to the strike in schools that started today in Dalmatia.
