Tobias Thyberg deleted the Grindr account before he took office
On Thursday, May 8, Tobias Thyberg was named the Prime Minister’s new security adviser. 33 minutes after the publication, private pictures of him were sent to the Government Offices, and later also to several media. He left the service after 12 hours when DN asked him questions and the Government Offices about the pictures.
The pictures came from an account he previously had on the dating app Grindr. Some of the pictures appear that they have not been openly shared on the platform but in a private channel.
« I should have informed about this but I did not. I have therefore announced that I do not intend to take up the position as a national security adviser, » Tobias Thyberg wrote in a text message to DN.
After Thyberg announced his decision, he received harsh criticism from Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M). He said that Thyberg failed to share important information during the security testing he underwent before the appointment.
– I do not intend to go into the pictures explicitly but to deliberately avoid telling things that could be described as compromising or that could be discovered by foreign power, it is simply against all rules. You must not do that, said Ulf Kristersson.
Prime Minister’s press staff Writes to SVT That Thyberg not only withheld but « took measures to actively hide information ».
DN can now tell you that thyberg – Shortly on the appointment – deleted his account on Grindr. According to DN’s sources, this has been an important reason behind the prime minister’s criticism of him. It was only after the pictures were spread to the Government Offices and several media that Thyberg informed the Prime Minister’s staff that he deleted the account before he took office.
But according to what DN experiences, Tobias Thyberg has internally stated that he deleted his account on Grindr after a meeting with people in the management of the national security adviser’s office. He should then have been asked to delete internet communication and clear in social media accounts. Their justification should have been that journalists could request messages on, for example, signal. However, he should not specifically have been asked to delete the Grindr app.
DN has applied for Tobias Thyberg who does not want to give any comments.
DN has sought the acting security adviser Annika Brändström and Chief of Staff Björn Fagerberg. They refer to the press service at the Government Offices, which in an e -mail writes: « We do not go into what calls are carried out between employees in the Government Offices ».
It is not known which other messages or communication were deleted.
