To death, ‘Problem Wolf’ of the Hoge Veluwe is not (for the time being) killed

The province of Gelderland promises the ‘problem wolf’ not yet to kill a runner in the Hoge Veluwe National Park last month. This Saturday the permit is going to shoot the animal, but the province promised on Friday in court to make no use of it, reports ANP news agency. The judge who must rule on the fate of the Wolf next week first needs more information – and the province wants to comply with that.

According to the province, De Wolf in question bitten a jogging woman on 13 April and then shown non-shy behavior and actively approached people. Pain stimuli would not scare the wolf in question. That is why finishing the animal is the only option according to the province.

Earlier this week, the province indicated that it will give permission to the fauna management unit to kill the wolf. Three animal organizations lodged an objection and the court also asked the court to prohibit shooting for the time being.

Which wolf is it?

An important stumbling block for the court in Arnhem was on Friday that it is not clear which wolf from the pack on the Hoge Veluwe is exactly. Is it a single wolf, or a wolf with cubs? Only when the province can hand over a report with convincing evidence, including clear photos, does the judge want to make a decision.

« I am a big animal lover and I would prefer not to order the wolf in question from the population, » said the Gelderse Deputy Harold Zoet (BBB) in the courtroom. « But I don’t want to be on my conscience that it is bitten again, and then perhaps with a different outcome. »

The judge’s decision in all probability still follows next Friday.
