Tire production for cars decreased by 5.2%
Most tire enterprises are forced to reduce production plans against the background of overstocking in the market. Due to the ambiguous weather, the season of rubber shift has shifted, and citizens do not seek to spend money, preferring savings. Cooling added a drop in car sales. The forecasts of market participants are not optimistic: in the future, the winter tire market can also sag.
The production of tires for cars in Russia in the first quarter decreased by 5.2%, to 8.23 million units, follows from the data of the Central Department Store (the operator of the Fair Sign Market system). Piralli confirms that a decrease in tire production by Russian enterprises followed a certain correction of demand from consumers in the first quarter of this year. Cooling is primarily associated with a decrease in sales of new cars, according to the company. Dmitry Baban from SBS Consulting is held by a similar opinion. According to Avtostat, sales of new cars in the first quarter decreased by 25% of the year, to 246.9 thousand pieces. The Ikon Tyres says that the production of tires in the Russian Federation grew compared to the same period in 2024, which corresponds to the company’s plans for the current year.
Pirelli notes that the company’s production plans are certainly updated taking into account the current realities of the market, but the strategy to expand the size line and models remains the same. “In the upcoming winter season, consumers will be available to a completely new non -nuclear Pirelli Ice Zero FR 3 bus,” the company notes.
Mr. Volodin connects a decrease in demand for summer tires in the first quarter with an abnormally cold spring and a shift in the season of tires. “Many car owners put off the purchase of summer tires, waiting for stable warming,” he explains. The retail sales of the company’s summer tires in the first quarter for the year decreased by an average of 10%by the year, the top manager notes. Ikon Tires CEO Andrei Pantyukhov also indicates a specific summer season due to abnormal weather conditions in the Russian Federation. “Conclusions on how the season goes, to make prematurely,” he believes. Market participants unanimously note that so far the situation is not in demand, but to a certain extent even aggravates. According to Pirelli, positive changes can be expected in case of a change in monetary policy. The « Cordiant » is also not optimistic. “Given the decrease in the car market that is now observed, we expect a small decline in sales of winter tires in 2025 – about 5%in annual terms,” Mr. Volodin predicts.
