The company Embla Medical receives the Export Prize of the President of Iceland in 2025.

« The Export Prize is a recognition of the international effort and foresight that has characterized the company’s operations for more than half a century, » says a statement from the Icelandic Agency.

The establishment of the company can be traced to 1971 when Ossur Kristinsson prosthetist founded a prosthetics workshop in Iceland.

The first product the company produced was the silicon shelter that attracted much attention in foreign markets. That attention marked the beginning of the international road trip that the company has been on since then.

Embla Medical employees are around 4500 in 40 countries. 700 employees work at the headquarters located in Reykjavik.

« Among the main stages of the company’s history are the listing of the market in 1999, an extensive international expansion with the acquisition of foreign companies, and the development of high -tech solutions that have received numerous international awards, » the announcement says.

The company has over 2100 registered patents, which are more licensed than any other Icelandic company in the field of life sciences.

The company’s revenues amounted to ISK 118 billion last year, which was more than double the decade ago, with revenues being ISK 58.5 billion in 2014.

« This high growth is based on stable investment in research and development, where sustainability and innovation are in the foreground, » says the announcement.

The Export Prize was awarded for the 37th time, but the companies that have previously received the award are Icelandic genetic analysis, Marel, Icelandair and Kerecis.
