Tikok knows it first – Diepresse.com

My son informed me about the Pope’s death. He learned it on Tiktok.

The youngest comes down with his cell phone (why am I actually writing this extra?) And says: « Papa, the Pope has died! » And it is Easter Monday, and for once I am not in the minute of news, which practically never happens to me as a journalist. And so I actually experience the death message from my 15-year-old son, who does not combine it very much. « Really, where did you get that from? » I ask. And he says: « Tikkok. » (Why am I actually writing this extra?) Now we come to the analog part of this story.

Because outside, the first churches soon started ringing the bells to spread the news of death. Incidentally, as long as the church density in this country is so high, one of the most impressive opportunities to make an event. Nationwide. Analog. Without any WiFi. However, the bells of the largest church in the area, which is currently a stone’s throw away from us, remained silent. Even after half an hour. « Should I go over and tell you? » Asks my son in laughing.

And in fact it is possible that nobody has heard of the death of the Catholic overhead. The cell phone certainly doesn’t play such a role there on Easter Monday, and nobody will call the Vatican. When the bells there start to ring deep and comfortably some time later, we go out and listen. We’re talking about the conclave briefly because we recently saw the film about it in the cinema. The white smoke will climb over Rome at some point in the next few weeks. And we will probably experience it again via TikTok than about the bells all around.
