A 31-year-old Babysit from Poperinge has to answer to the judge for shaken babysyndrome that Jules sustained 5 years ago in Veurne. After 5 years of investigation, only Babysit A. and non -host mother F. was brought to court. But before the process starts, the family of Jules wants to have three witnesses called … including reception mother F.
In February of this year, the council chamber finally made a judgment in a study that has been running for five years. On February 9, Baby Jules from Veurne, then six months old, sustained a serious case of shaken babysyndrome. After a long investigation, the 51-year-old reception mother F, with whom Jules stayed that day, was set out. The 31-year-old Babysit, who picked up Jules later that evening, was brought to court. The trial against Babysit A. from Poperinge started today.

The civil parties, the parents and grandparents of Jules, however, want to call three witnesses later before the actual process. « As you know, the lie detector test of A. was 95 percent lying and we are therefore also looking for other means of evidence, » said Master Kristiaan Vandenbussche. « It bothers us that the Public Prosecution Service asked the country prosecution for her in the council chamber and states that Baby Jules could also have sustained shaking baby syndrome due to a natural cause. »
“Our first witness, a children’s rehabilitation doctor, can bring more clarity about it. She studied the brain scans of baby Jules in which both old and new blood could be seen. Our second witness is the neighbor of Jules’ parents. She heard that Friday evening stumbling and screeching of Jules. Our third witness is perhaps of a photo of a new F. We want clarity. «
No added value
Master Frank Scheerlinck, who assists Jules’s grandparents, also asked to call the witnesses. « It is important for finding the truth, especially because something like that is a difficult and complex file. »
Both the Public Prosecution Service and the new lawyer of A. rejected that. « Everything has already been stated in the file. And certainly F. has been heard several times, what else can she explain? It has no added value. »
However, the civil parties insisted, and, if necessary, stated that they wanted to sue themselves if the Public Prosecution Service does not want that. And so the case has been postponed to May 6, where the three witnesses will be discussed. The date for the actual process will then be determined.
