Three ruled in custody in the murder of murder
The Southern District Court has, at the request of the Chief of Police in the South, ruled three to be subject to detention on the basis of investigative interests until Wednesday 19 March, as stated in the announcement.
Everyone is suspected of being involved in deprivation of liberty, blackmail and murder that police in the south of Iceland have been investigating since late Monday night.
A total of eight have been arrested in connection with the investigation, but five have been released from police. The investigation is well aimed but is extensive and the police in the South have been assisted, among other things, the assistance of the police forces in the capital area, the Suðurnes region, the National Commissioner of Police and the District Prosecutor's Office.
Detention guarantees research interests
Asked if those arrested who have not been sentenced in custody are free of all cases, Jón Gunnar Þórhallsson, a police officer with the police in the South, replies:
« No, there is nothing that says. They are free their travels as things stand now. The study continues.
The detention is just to secure research interests. «
Asked if any of the arrested witnesses remain witnessed, he says it is not possible to provide information on their legal status at this time.
