Three residents of the Sverdlovsk region were convicted of arson of relay cabinets
The Military Court in Yekaterinburg appointed the persons to the defendants in the preparation of terrorist attacks from seven to eight years – half as much as the state prosecution requested. One of the failed arsonists claimed that he only planned to implement the recognized terrorist and prohibited organization “Legion of Freedom of Russia” in the Russian Federation to prevent the crime planned by its participants.
According to investigators, Arseniy Klimin was the first to involve Arseny Klimin, who was recruited by a participant in the “Legion of Russia” (recognized in the Russian Federation by a terrorist organization and prohibited) Andrei Martynov in 2023 through Telegram. He invited him to commit arson and other terrorist crimes for money.
The young man agreed and entered into correspondence with the Ukrainian curator, having, according to participants in the investigation, “a positive attitude to the ideology of violence”.
How the investigation establishedArseny Klimin attracted Danil Eliseev to commit crimes, and he had previously acquired Nikita Sukhorukov. The latter agreed, « wanting to improve his financial situation in any illegal way. » The task of the three defendants included the execution of the instructions of Andrei Martynov. The accomplices had to purchase the necessary means for performing terrorist attacks, shoot arson of relay cabinets on video and send videos to Andrei Martynov for publication in the media “in order to create social tension”, “suggestions of a sense of fear”.
According to the indictment, the group was distinguished by “cohesion” and “stability”, its activity was “designed for a long time” and aimed at an “unlimited number of terrorist crimes”. The investigation established that in the period from June 1 to August 29, 2023, Arseny Klimin received from Andrei Martynov to make arson of railway objects: in particular, three relay cabinets located near the vouvetka – three relay cabinets on the Putevka -Istok stamp, one relay cabinet near the vehicle is a vestibule, Brazit, Berezit, Berezit. Three relay cabinets on the Shuvakish – gypsum stage.
To perform arson in the evening of August 31, 2023, Nikita Sukhorukov arrived at his own Peugeot to objects where terrorist attacks were planned, photographed them and sent a photo to Arseni Klimin, who sent them to Andrei Martynov.
On September 4, 2023, Nikita Sukhorukov took a hammer in the garage, a gas key that was needed to open relay cabinets, as well as alcohol -containing fluids necessary for arson. However, the accomplices could not bring the criminal intent to the end, as they were detained on September 5.
On May 19, the Central District Military Court sentenced Arseny Klimin to the age of eight, his accomplices Danil Eliseev from Krasnoufimsk and Nikita Sukhorukova from Yekaterinburg – by seven years of imprisonment with restriction of freedom for one year, under Part 3 of Art. 30, paragraph « a » part 2. Art. 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempt on a terrorist attack by an organized group). The first four years of punishment, the defendants will be held in prison, the remaining time – in a maximum security colony. It should be noted that during the debate, the state prosecution requested fourteen and a half years for Arseniy Klimin, and for two other persons – twelve and a half years in prison, which is almost twice as many appointed deadlines.
In the last word, Arseny Klimin said that he was repented in his deed. According to him, if there was an opportunity, he would be ready to « atone for blood and go to his own. »
Arseny Klimin said that he acted in the interests of his homeland, and said that he created a team with his friends that “merged” (obviously law enforcement officers), the data of activists supporting the Ukrainian regime, and “spoiled the life of the special services of Ukraine”.
According to the defendant, they participated in the breakdown of charity concerts for the Armed Forces and transferred funds to support the Russian army, and Ukrainian Telegram channels “threatened to add the entire team to the Mirotelorets website”. According to Klimin, he planned to implement the Liberty of Russia Legion (recognized in the Russian Federation a terrorist organization and is prohibited) and find out information about the preparatory terrorist attacks, discover curators, thereby preventing crimes. To do this, it was necessary to “burn the cabinets”, and Klimin agreed, deciding that “changing the smaller to more.”
Nikita Sukhorukov in the last word reported that he “pulled time” and did not plan to set fire to the cabinets. According to him, he voluntarily refused to commit a crime and had no intent to an offense, never adhered to the ideology of violence. His accomplice Danil Eliseev assured that he wanted to help a friend earn money and did not know that this case was “connected with Ukraine”.
