Three people died in a serious minibus accident on Autobahn 48 near the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Koblenz. Six other people were injured, some of them seriously, the police said.

On the way back from a family celebration, the bus with a total of nine occupants came to the right of the road in the early morning due to unclear cause and overturned several times.

According to the investigations, the occupants were previously at a family celebration in Hesse. There was no evidence of an alcohol or drug-related inability to driving by the 22-year-old driver until Sunday afternoon, the police said- and asked the public not to participate in corresponding speculation.

« It is a very, very terrible accident, » said a police spokesman in Koblenz on Sunday morning. The accident occurred on the road towards Trier in the area of ​​Bassenheim (Mayen-Koblenz district) around 03.05 a.m.

Two women and one man dead

According to the information, the dead are a 53 -year -old man and two women aged 47 and 65. The six other people should be aged 20 to 66. They were not injured in life. It was a minibus with nine seats.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident. Another car drove over debris shortly after the accident and had to be towed. The police did not provide any further information on Sunday. In the morning, a spokesman said that there were also foreign nationals on the bus.

Autobahn blocked for hours

The highway was released again in the morning after a four -hour closure, said a spokeswoman for the motorway police. The A48 had previously been fully closed between the Koblenz and Ochtendend Kreuz, while the rescue work was running. The traffic was diverted via the A61.

In addition to around a dozen vehicles from the emergency services, up to seven police patrol cars were also on site. According to the operations manager, the fire brigade was also at the scene of the accident with five vehicles. Four emergency pastors were also alerted.
