Thousands of people parade in Lisbon on May 1st
Thousands of people rose this Thursday Avenida Almirante Reis, in Lisbon, to commemorate Labor Day. The increase in living costs and housing prices dominate the concerns of the May 1st parade, organized by CGTP.
In a slow step, workers, retired and young people, wielding stripes, flags and posters shouted one voice words such as “the salary increase” and “recognition does not pay income, salary yes”.
The theme of housing was one of the most stood out in this year’s demonstration, giving time to hundreds of messages and reports of workers and reformed with difficulty in addressing the increase in prices of houses.
The parade ended with CGTP Secretary-General Tiago Oliveira to speak in the gardens of the luminous source and to claim a salary increase of 15% for all workers.
May 1st, International Labor Day, originated from the events of Chicago from 139 years ago, when a journey was held to reduce working hours to eight hours.
The demonstration was violently repressed by the United States authorities who killed dozens of workers and condemned four union leaders to the gallows.
