Next year, more than 113,000 people will lose their entitlement to unemployment benefits. That is a lot more than the 100,000 unemployed that were previously the case, writes The morning Friday.

Those who are unemployed for more than two years will lose the right to unemployment benefit in the future. That measure was introduced by the De Wever government and starts at the beginning of 2026. Competent minister David Clarinval (MR) talked about 100,000 long -term unemployed people under the age of 55 who would lose their benefits as a result. The impression had arisen that people over 55 would be largely spared, writes The morning.
But new figures from the National Employment Service (RVA), which grants the benefits, shows that an estimated 113,000 unemployed will lose their benefits next year. There are again and the 2,000 people who receive a so -called protection benefit. That special status for people who suffer from serious and long -term medical problems, but are not declared completely incapacitated for work, will disappear in two years.
The new estimates also show that more than 33,000 people over 55 are in danger of losing their unemployment benefits. Because they still get much more difficult because of their age, the federal government does provide an exception for that group, which, however, belongs to a condition: people over 55 who have more than thirty years of work on the clock do not lose their benefits.
