« Thoughts about Divine Passion » on Monday at the Athens Conservatory

The days preceding the great celebration of Christianity, Easter, are for many days of meditation and reflection.

The Athens Philharmonic Orchestra participates in the climate of the days with a concert inspired by religious faith, fundamental component of European culture.

This concert continues for the third year the « Symphony Nights » cycle, a series of concerts at the Ioannis Despotopoulos Amphitheater of the Athens Conservatory, in collaboration with the orchestra with the oldest music education institution of our country, which has been presenting a person in recent years.

In the first part we will hear works by a composer that has largely identified with European religious music in various forms, JS Bach. The Coral Prelude for Ecclesiastical Body “O Mensch, Beweine Deine Sünde Gross” (BWV 622), MAX REGER’s string orchestra will open the program to give the piano concert for piano (BWV 1052). Papastefanou.

The second part of the concert includes the Major, Beethoven project. It is a musical masterpiece that, unfortunately, has remained in the shadow of the great Missa Solemnis, the same composer. Project 86 is a project closer to the classic tradition of operation, with highly solid soluble parts and imposing chorals full of energy and religious depth. Characteristic of the work are the frequent dialogues between soloists and choir, a phenomenon not often found in works by this repertoire.
