If you have a heat pump installed in 2025, you will not pay 6 but 21 percent VAT on that. The temporary VAT reduction of the previous federal government has ended, while Arizona will only make the new reduction in 2026. Sectorfederation ClimEfed calls that « not the right signal ».
Due to the energy crisis, the previous federal government temporarily introduced a VAT reduction on the installation of heat pumps. That measure ended at the end of last year.
The government’s coalition agreement states that the VAT rate on the delivery and installation of heat pumps will be temporarily to 6 percent in the coming 5 years, but the budget tables showed that that measure will only start on January 1, 2026. The cabinet of Finance Jan Jambon (N-VA) also confirms this. The result is that the VAT on heat pumps this year is again 21 percent.
ClimEfed, the federation for climate technologies, calls that « not the right signal » for the electrification of society. Spokesperson Patrick O points out that those who are building now cannot simply postpone the installation of a heat pump until 2026. Moreover, the higher rate also applies to working hours and accessories. On an installation of 20,000 euros, according to the Federation, the higher VAT percentage means a difference of 3,000 euros.
