When Easter unfolds, traffic is faithfully followed. The Danish roads are filled with cars, and especially the crossing between the region becomes a lively affair.

This year, Good Friday offers more than just close traffic across the Great Belt Bridge, as there is reason to be extra careful if the trip goes that way.

The bridge, which since 1998 has connected Funen and Zealand, is usually a lifeblood for thousands of motorists.

According to Sund & Belt, about 36,000 vehicles cross the iconic connection daily, and over the years more than 250 million cars have passed it in both directions.

But the wind plays with the muscles this Easter Friday, and it has caused the authorities to intervene.

Storebælt.dk warns directly of wind conditions that can affect traffic. « On the Great Belt there is warn against winds that can affect the driving, ”the message reads. One vehicle in particular is in the spotlight:

Training vehicles under 750 kilos are currently not allowed to drive across the bridge. This applies to both the West and East Bridge, and the ban extends from Halsskov to Knudshoved on the E20.

It writes Road Directorate on their website.

The Road Directorate states that the restriction will initially apply until 23:00, but reservations are made for changes, depending on how wind conditions develop.

Motorists are therefore advised to stay up to date before embarking on the trip across the belt.

For many, Easter is equal to reunion, family and days off, but on Friday, also reminiscent of how fast the weather can change the agenda.

For even one of Denmark’s most busy bridges must bend when the forces of nature seriously take hold.
