« This is just a terrible underestimation and thoughtlessness »

A difficult day is behind the Dalvík Rescue Squad, which has been working to shelter sheep in Skíðadalur in challenging conditions. A rescue crew says conditions could easily have been different from the fact that underestimation and thoughtlessness have prevented it.

Yellow and orange warnings have been all over the country and rescue teams have been called out in the various projects.

Björn Már Björnsson from the Dalvík Rescue Squad says rescue teams have just arrived in the crop in Skíðadalur when mbl.is caught up with him, but the band held the call at about 7 this morning.

The day has been tricky

« The day has just been tricky, downright. These were challenging conditions. There was a lot of snow in the banks, traps and beats and some of the money we found was felt, » says Björn, noting that the money was difficult to drive home.

It was because the money was cluttered and especially the lambs, many of which carried snowflakes that rescue teams had to burn off at intervals a few meters because the lambs could no longer move their front or back.

« Unfortunately, not everything was achieved, but most of the money that had lambs was caught. Some geldings and rams are left who have just it gracious, they are sheltered. »

Then Björn says that changed conditions are in the valley now, with cave and air warming, which is in line with meteorologists’ weather forecasts for the development of the day.

Can you expect more calls or is it finally just starting to calm down?

« We are, of course, always ready. We are not used to doing such calls, but actually at the same time last year we were in this and I would like to reiterate that we are going there for the same farmers in the same place, as it was shocked last year and again now.

He says the farmer who has the money and his daughter never should have sent the money knowing what weather was going across the country.

« It was farmers who took care of their money and went there after yesterday and the previous day to get the money into a safe shelter. But it was not done there. »

Powerless and thoughtlessness

Björn also states that it has been possible to prevent the operation from becoming as large as it became.

« What is also watching for us is that if assistance had been requested yesterday, it would have taken two hours, » says Björn, mentioning that the situation was considerably more demanding this morning.

« It wouldn’t have had to go that way and I just want it to happen. It’s just a devastating underestimation and thoughtlessness for this unique farmer because this is not the first and second time this is just for him. »

Became wet, cold and tired

Then Björn says extra crews have been called out in the area, not just the money, but from there less to solve rescue forces who had become wet, cold and tired and needed clothing, nutrition and rest.

Nobody in danger

« But the cohesion in this operation was very good, both with farmers and other rescues. It went well. There was never anyone in any danger. We just set certain goals.

In the end, this was just a fun movement and help with this fine farmer, ”says Björn, and finally mentions that the operation has the whole exchange rate » wonderfully given the circumstances. «
