– Echinococcosis is a disease caused by tapeworm, which is as much a threat to our pets as it is for us. The worms or eggs are excreted with the bowels of infected foxes and gold jackets and remain viable for up to a year. If the eggs then get into the mouths, nose, fur, their feet, their feet, and lick them from the animal’s intestinal tract, the eggs will also infect them. And the animals can continue to infect us, for example, licking our hands, and we eat an apple, say, without washing hands. What happens when we get infected?
– Echinococcosis can be a serious disease. Infection can result in cysts in the liver, spleen, lungs, or even in the brain or bones, both in humans, in the animal. In the case of the former, the infection may have been gone for many years, as cysts rarely grow so big that they cause symptoms. Therefore, the infection is usually discovered by accident, for example, during a completely different imaging test.
What are the symptoms?
– When the symptoms develop, their severity depends on the size and location of the cysts. For example, if they are in the liver, they can cause abdominal pain and jaundice, if in the lungs, including coughing, bloody sputum.
What can we do about it?
– Prevention is very important, that is to say regular pets of pets and animal keepers hygiene. Since the tapeworm eggs can be added to low -fruits and vegetables with animal feces, they should always be thoroughly washed, especially if you can get into your garden fox and golden jack.
