Third University in Bulgaria will train veterinarians
Upon approval by the Council of Ministers and the National Assembly – Pleven, it will become the third after the Thracian University in Stara Zagora and the Forestry in Sofia, which will prepare veterinarians.
The requirement for the opening of the faculty is to have a positive assessment by the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation (NEAA) of the respective project. This was received on October 10, 2024, Minister Valchev wrote in his reasons.
The specialty « Veterinary Medicine » is regulated, the training is five years and ends with the acquisition of a master’s degree, there is no bachelor’s. It also requires a positive assessment of NEAA and it has been available since March 13, 2025.

The opening of the faculty was supported by employers and associations in the field of veterinary medicine in areas of Northwestern and Central Northern Bulgaria, including the Regional Directorate of Food Safety in Pleven, the Municipalities of Lovech, Levski, Troyan, the Regional Beekeeping Union in Pleven and the Paints Association and the Painting Association.
After a public discussion with a deadline April 24, the project will be voted on by the government, after which the National Assembly will have the word.
