It was the neighbors of a house in the Tieltsesteenweg in Eeklo that sounded the alarm. They had a suspicion that there would be a illustrious slaughter on a field. They informed the police.

The police arrived on 1 June 2024. The residents of the house did not open, but through the garden of the neighbors they saw a white and brown goat. The inspectors immediately realized that something was not fluff. The goats were also in their own droppings. The brown goat also had a gaping head wound. They were clearly under stress. « They vibrated continuously. »

The police inspectors could see that there were indeed people at home. A man (42) and Woman (39) were interviewed. During the interrogation, the man stated that the goats were of a friend. She had asked him if the goats could stand with him because they were a surprise for her son.

The man told the police that the goats were in perfect health when they arrived with him. They finally tied them because they started fighting. « I didn’t know that wasn’t allowed, » he said later. He assured the police that he would not slaughter them.

The woman did indeed say that she had bought the goats for her children. They had once seen goats on a petting zoo and liked it. She had bought the animals on a farm in Ninove. « They started fighting, so that’s why we tied them. We were afraid they would collide with the window. »

Remarkable: the goats were on a grass player with the police after the seizure. They were not aggressively towards each other there.

The defendants themselves asked to be acquitted. They had only temporarily tied the goats. The other injuries had sustained the goats by fighting each other.

The court did not comment on that. « It is certainly true that the goats underwent pain because their paws were tied together, » says the verdict. The court quotes a few points in the judgment to motivate that.
