At today’s meeting of the city assembly, the proposal was unanimously supported.
According to the proposal, the Tallinn City Board will turn to the government with a proposal to amend the Law on Road Traffic in order to expand the rights of local self -government rights to regulate the use of light vehicles and the conditions for their use in the territory under the jurisdiction of local self -government.
According to the deputy of the city assembly of Anastasia Kovalenko-Kylvart, the change in legislation would allow both Tallinn, where the problem is especially acute and other self-government to introduce the necessary measures that contribute to improving road safety, improving public order, preventing accidents and conflicts between light vehicles and other participants in the movement. “In addition, this change would support the work of city law enforcement agencies and increase the effectiveness of supervision,” said Kovalenko-Kylvart.
“Local self -government should have the right to establish the limiting amount and restrictions on parking light vehicles and low -power mopeds, as well as introduce additional technical and ensuring road safety requirements, such as checking age or the availability of a driver’s license,” continued the city council deputy.
“Already on the next Wednesday in the Great Hall of Riigikogu, the consideration of the bill submitted by me will begin, which regulates the use of light transport and low -power mopeds and provides additional powers to local self -government. I hope that the same parties that unanimously supported this issue in the metropolitan city assembly will support it in Riigikoga,” said it with hope of hope Kovalenko-Kylvart.
