Students planned an assassination
A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Jacek Dobrzyński, announced that three 19-year-old men planned to carry out terrorist attacks in Poland. As reported by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Olsztyn, the suspects are the inhabitants of Olsztyn and nearby towns. They are all Polish citizens.
The findings of the joint message of the Internal Security Agency and the prosecutor’s office show that young men collected substances with pyrotechnic properties and instructions on the construction of explosives. Investigators found that the suspects intensively sought information on the service of firearms and shooting techniques on the internet. They attended shooting ranges and took part in military and tactical training.
As the prosecutor’s office emphasizes, the inspiration for the detainees was to be known for the mass attacks – Anders Breivik, Brenton Tarrant and Timothy McVeigh. Young men were fascinated by their actions and ideology. They analyzed the course of their attacks and the mistakes made, which – as investigators suggest – could want to use when planning their own activities.
In the face of all three suspects, allegations were applied, among others from Article 168 of the Penal Code in connection with Article 163, i.e. regarding crimes against life and health, and bringing an event threatening many people or large -sized property. There is a penalty for this from a year to 10 years in prison. They were also charged with art. 255a parish 2 of the Penal Code, which concerns participation in training aimed at preparing for a terrorist act. This act faces from 3 months to 5 years imprisonment.
The spokesman did not reveal what specific goals the suspects intended to attack. However – according to unofficial information, which RMF FM reached – their leaves could include schools, but also places of larger assembly of people, such as equality parades or religious pilgrimages.
