For a shot you can purchase them on an auction site, because you can offer from 30 euros for a set of ten. « We hope to recover as much money as possible. »
The Leuven city administration often makes mobility decisions that are not in the right place for everyone, but the placement of 69 road cushions at exaggerated speed caused a lot of fuss two years ago. In various places, such as the Wegelenstraat in Wilsele-Putkapel or the Kortrijksestraat in Kessel-Lo, loud protest came from the neighborhood. The noise nuisance turned out to be unbearable for some local residents and some of the cushions were quickly removed. Since then, the pillow was on the city depot.
Read too. Not exactly popular, and yet road cushions are popping up in the city: « We don’t sleep anymore »
Until now, because the roadway cushions are for sale through a public auction site. « A standard material procedure that we no longer use, » says public works ships Dirk Vansina (CD&V). « After the fuss that arose about it, we soon decided not to use the pillows anymore. They just leave in our depot also makes no sense. We sell them through public sale. »
Replacements or repairs
The sale only concerns part of the pillows. They are still in 24 places in the city. « There they don’t seem to take care of protest and do their work, » says Vansina. « We also keep track of a number of copies to make any replacements if one of the pillows in the city would be in need of repair. »
The roadway cushions, or officially Berlin cushions, were originally purchased by the city for 120,000 euros. You can offer today on sets of ten pillows from just 30 euros. A fraction of the price. « The auction house chooses that starting price, not us, » says Vansina. « Of course we hope that more is being offered for it. We want to recover as much as possible. In many municipalities the pillows are still placed, so we also believe that it should be possible to get a solid price for it. They may still be used very well elsewhere. »
The auction runs until July 4. Currently, one bid was made on a set of ten pillows. An offer equal to the starting amount, 30 euros.
