They ate almost everything and then threw the glass. The camera recorded a scam
The Italian San Marino restaurant in English Widnes did not expect that Saturday lunch would turn into … Acting show at the school academy level. The photo from the monitoring shows three guests at the table – a man and two women. In the background: unexpected dishes, empty bottles, delicious memories. But also something much more bitter.
As it turns out, it was not an ordinary family feast. It was – as the owners say – A lawyer with glass and insolent mystification.
The man pulled the glass out of his pocket and gave him his wife. A moment later they claimed that it was in the dish – reports the owner of the Miraz Yolc restaurant, quoted by the local service « Liverpool Echo ». – The recording shows that a woman hides something in a napkin along with a portion of food, and then calls on a waitress dramatically.
« Glass? » – And a porcelain smile broke
When the young waitress heard the word « glass », her porcelain smile almost broke. There was silence. The chefs have stopped their breath. The owner – although he was still silent – he sensed falsehood from the beginning. – This glass does not come from our kitchen at all. I knew this before I looked at the recording – he later said in the media.
Meanwhile, almost everything disappeared from the plates. Not because they liked it so much – but because the plan had to look convincing. According to the report « Liverpool Echo », before the waiters managed to bring the bill, the couple played the last act: dramatic accusation and equally fast out. There is only a disgust on the table … and an invoice – on the Polish currency – for over PLN 500.
The case went to the police in Cheshire. The official investigation is already underway. The restaurant has published a film on Facebook and warns other places: « It was a theater. But we won’t be fooled anymore. »
And in Poland? Such numbers also happen?
– I have been working in gastronomy for 20 years and I have heard stories from which a book could be written. But in our restaurant something like this never happened – says « Fakt » Małgorzata Stach, co -owner of the premises « Kuchnia Kevin and Gosia » in Mielec in Podkarpackie, who runs together with Kevin Aiston, known from the television program « Europe can like ».
As he admits, there is a simple rule in their premises: if something does not taste, you do not have to pay. – Of course it would be strange if someone ate everything, and only then remembered that he didn’t like it. But this has not happened yet – he says.
Mrs. Małgorzata emphasizes that she perfectly understands restaurateurs who have to face such situations. – We put our hearts, emotions, lots of work. It’s not just business, it’s a passion. And someone comes and makes a theater out of it? Sorry to hear that such things are happening – he adds.
It’s not « cunning », it’s an offense
For order: in the light of law it is not a clever, but an offense. Art. 121 §2 of the Code of Offenses says directly: « Whoever, without an intention to pay, extorts food or a drink at the Collective Nutrition Department, » may go to custody, get a fine or a limitation of freedom. You can also order the obligation to return the equivalent of extorted property. In short? A trick with a « insert » can end in court.
But do you really have to explain to someone that such behavior is ordinary … a dirtyness?
The final of the performance?
The owners of the English restaurant have announced that things would not let go. Customers who know the place are outraged: « This is a wonderful place, with wonderful food. Someone should treat these people to karma – not necessarily al dente. »
