Piešťany. The Piešťany self -government recently installed a bicycle prohibition on the sidewalk along the Váh between the Colonnade and the Land Bridge. Nothing would be special if this approximately 350-meter section did not directly overwhelm the Váh cycling route with the water reservoir Sissa.

Cyclists will now have to drop off, or walk along the replacement route, on a busy and stacked street along the hospital, the Magnólia Hotel and through the largest paid parking in the city on Nálepkova.

There have been no signs so far

The ban for bicycles has always been paid there, but no one has complied with it. Recently installed traffic signs have changed this, they are to take care of more safety for pedestrians.

This pavement is also popular with spa guests, due to the high concentration of swans and wild ducks and mothers with small children. It is too narrow in these places, two of them can have two compared to going cyclists.

« Narrow communication and high frequency of pedestrians make the common use of space dangerous. The collisions have not been officially reported, but the situation in the field clearly shows that there is no place for all, » said Alexandra Střelcová, spokeswoman of the town of Piešťany.

As she continued, the official cycle route is finished at the House of Arts, where it disconnects from the dam and continues through the orchard A. Kmeťa, Winter and Nálepkova Street, then across the underpass and connects back to the dam beyond the landskeeper bridge. According to the spokeswoman, this route respects traffic possibilities, monument protection and safety of movement.

At the same time, she recalled that the city police have already been informed about it and they would regularly check the section, use the camera system. The amount of the fine for unauthorized driving on the pavement may climb up to EUR 50 on the spot, and in the event of a repeated violation of the prohibition, the penalty may be higher.

The alternative is expensive

We were wondering whether there were some alternative solutions due to the wide waterfront, for example, to build a part of the cycle path in these places right next to the river.
