These mobiles lose access from June 1

The smartphone market is moving with lightning speed, and now thousands of users are forced to say goodbye to one of the most popular communication platforms in the world.

The communication platform owned by the technology giant Meta is pulling the plug to a large number of older mobile models from June 1, 2025. The change hits both iPhone and Android users sitting with older devices in hand.

The decision is part of Meta’s ongoing strategy to optimize the app’s performance and security. In the future, WhatsApp will only work on devices with at least iOS 15.1 or Android 5.0.

Users who do not meet the requirements will be left without access to messages, calls and media unless they switch to newer equipment.

« The deadline is set: On Sunday, June 1, 2025, WhatsApp will stop supporting more older smartphone models, » the official announcement reads.

On the Apple page, it means goodbye to the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The termination of support was originally scheduled for May, but was postponed by a few weeks.

Among Android devices, it is especially owners of old Samsung phones that have to take the consequence. Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and more phones from the Galaxy Ace, Core, Trend and J series are on the list.

Also LG’s Optimus series, including models such as L7II and F3Q, as well as older Huawei Ascend devices are affected.

The list continues with Sony Xperia M, Lenovo A820, ZTE V956, UMI X2 and Grand S Flex. Many of the phones in question were launched in the early 2010s and have long lagged back on software updates.

For users of these models, the time has now come to upgrade if they will continue to be part of the digital community at WhatsApp.
