June 21 will be the longest day of the year. The day in Riga will reach 17 hours and 52 minutes, the rest of Latvia will be from 17 hours and 33 minutes in the south of Augsdaugava district to 18 hours and 12 minutes in the north of Valmiera district, according to information « Timeanddate.com ».

The night on Saturday will be the shortest night of the year, lasting in Riga for six hours and eight minutes, elsewhere in the country – from five hours and 48 minutes to the farth of the country, in Valmiera County at the Estonian border, up to six hours and 28 minutes in the far southern point of the country, in the Augstdaugava district near the Lithuanian and Belarusian border.

On June 21, the sun will deceive at 4.29 pm, at 22.21. The earliest – at 4.10 – the sun rises in the extreme northeast of Latvia, in the Pededze parish of Aluksne district, and most of all – at 4.48 pm – the sun will jump in the southwest of Latvia, the seashore in South Kurzeme County.

The earliest sunset is expected in the southeast of the country, where the sun will be sunbathing at 9:58 pm in the Belarusian border, but the latest sunset will be in northwest of Latvia, where the sun will be sunbathing at the sea at Ventspils County at 22.36.

After the solstice, the nights will become longer and the days are shorter. On June 22, the day will be six seconds shorter, the sun will shine for five minutes less on Peter’s day, but after a month of day will decrease by an hour.

Divided into quarters according to sunshine duration, the solstice is mid -summer. The brightest quarter of the year will end in early August, while the astronomical summer will continue until September 22.
