ECCO will cease production in the summer.
Martin. In a relatively short time, the Turčiansky region loses the second large employer. After a factory sewing factory, the well -known footwear of the Danish company ECCO also ends.
It stops production in Martin after almost thirty years, releasing more than 600 employees. Their future is now questionable.
Deputy trade unions say that people from the factory will find it difficult to find a job at home. The reason will not be just a small labor market that will probably not be enough for a higher number of people who will need a new source of livelihood.
Many will be to complicate the admission to a new job even a higher age or difficult life situation.

Such an end was surprised by them
The closure of Martin’s factory could be more or less expected, writes an index. The Danish parent company ECCO was in red numbers last year and cut, in Martin it had a quarter of lower orders in 2023.
The end of production was also counted by trade unions that represent employees in Martin’s plant. But not in this way. The sudden end and mass dismissal surprised them.
« In the factory the last ten years have gradually reduced production and the number of employees, some have retired. We have also experienced minor redundancies, up to ten people, » he explains to MY Turiec Deputy Trade Unions Pavol Hustava. As he adds, after the exchange of CEO at the end of last year they counted on the end of the company.

« We just did not expect it to happen so suddenly. We counted that the end of production would be decomposed into a certain period of time, one line in half a year, then the other. Not at the same time, » says Hvavava from the trade unions. They delivered them the decision of the Board of Directors and shareholders. Subsequently, the company management called employees.
They learned that most would end up in the summer. « Employees’ reactions correspond to the situation, there is sadness, anger, shock, » adds the trade union, how the information has hit the employees.
And what is behind the end of the Martin factory? « ECCO had to change the number of its plants so that production capacities correspond to the needs of the market, » said Peter Milan, CEO of the company.
He denied the claim that the abolition of production in Turks would be related to the losses on the Russian market, as it appears on social networks. « This is not the case. This decision is not the result of the situation in the specific market, but is the result of global business and economic development, » the director added.
The company also states in its opinion that they are preparing compensatory packages for workers and « do everything they can to provide employees with the necessary assistance and care in this difficult situation ».
The content of packages or other announced assistance does not know much. « Employees will receive above -standard severance pay, which belongs to them from a collective agreement. It was fought by employees themselves through trade unions. It is roughly once as high as it flows from the Labor Code, » he explains, for example, that people who have worked in the plant 20 years are entitled to eight -month severance pay.
People before retirement and single -man
Hundreds of people will find themselves out of work in the middle of this year. According to the trade union representative, it will be a problem. « I think the labor market in Martin does not even absorb so many people, » he says. A smaller number of jobs will not be the only obstacle.
