There is only one coalition variant at the Riga City Council / Day
He said that the coalition’s negotiations are going without requirements or ultimatums, believing that the coalition should be set up and starting to work as soon as possible. Cherry hopes that the new partnership will be able to be established before Midsummer, and if the election results are not appealed, the first sitting could take place around June 20th.
In Cherry’s view, partner ambitions can play a role in the conversation, but « JV is a constructive partner, an adult in the room » that does not plan to cause problems.
In the JV City Council, I would like to continue working on the areas it cared for before, but the party understands that all four areas will not be preserved.
Cherry thinks that it would be optimal to stay with two vice mayors, but if the thesis of three vice mayors is on the table, then that probability exists.
Speaking of possible coalition variants, the politician stressed that he would not even want to consider a different coalition. « There are national and populist non -governmental. The first block has got the majority, and I don’t see other variations, » said Cherry.
As reported today at 10 am, the Riga City Hall « Progressive » will meet with JV, continuing talks on the creation of a new coalition in the Riga City Council after the local elections.
On Monday there was a « progressive » first meeting with the « National Union » (NA). Meanwhile, a meeting with the « United List » (AS) is scheduled for Wednesday.
As previously explained by the mayor of Riga, Viestur Kleinberg (« Progressive »), if these meetings are successful, then on Thursday could meet everyone together. Kleinberg hopes to negotiate a new coalition until Midsummer.
On Monday, both the NA and the « progressive » meet were « cautiously positive ». In the first conversation, after the elections, there was a discussion on the work to be done and the positions were not discussed.
In the local elections in the Riga City Council, « Latvia in the first place » (LPV) won the highest number of votes, but the « Progressive » and NA party also achieved very close results, according to the Central Election Commission’s election results.
In the municipal elections in Riga, LPV received 18.17% of the vote, which gives 13 out of 60 mandates in the council. 16.62% of voters voted for « progressive », giving them 11 Member’s mandates, NA – 14.2% of voters, who give it 10 mandates, but the current Mayor of Riga, Vilnius Cherry, gained 12.9% of voters. As a result, JV will receive nine posts.
The list of « sovereign power » and the « Jaunlatvian » union has received 12.13% of the vote and will be eight mandates respectively. Two more political forces – the « stability » party, supported by 6.94% of voters, entered the council, and the « combined list », supported by 6.29% of voters, allowing five and four mandates respectively.
The initiative to form the new ruling coalition has been taken by « Progressive » in terms of NA, JV and AS. A total of 34 votes from 60 would have such a coalition.
