There is great support in Latvia for the reception of Ukrainian refugees, but less consent to sanctions against Russia / day
In other EU Member States, 80% of the population states that they agree to the EU’s decision to welcome war refugees from Ukraine, while 17% are not supported. It is not supported by 8% of respondents in Latvia.
Most or 81% of respondents in Latvia agree to ensure the EU decision to provide Ukraine with humanitarian and financial support, but 13% do not agree. 76% of other EU Member States also emphasize that they agree with the decision, while 21% are not supported by such a bloc.
A similar position among the people of Latvia and other EU is about imposing sanctions on the Russian government, businesses and persons. If 70% of respondents support such a decision in Latvia, 72% in other EU Member States agree to the sanctions imposed by the bloc. While 21% of survey participants in Latvia are eligible for sanctions, 23% of respondents in other EU Member States.
66% of respondents support the status of a candidate country for Ukraine in Latvia, while in other EU Member States, 60% of the survey participants. Such an EU decision in Latvia is not supported by 25%, but in other EU Member States – 34%.
In its turn, 69% of respondents support funding for the purchase and supply of military equipment to Ukraine in Latvia. In other EU Member States, 59% of survey participants are supported by such a block decision. In contrast, 23% of the population in Latvia is not supported in Latvia, but in other EU Member States, 36% of respondents.
The Eurobarometer survey was conducted in Latvia from March 26 to April 15, with 1013 Latvian residents.
