There is a pink refrigerator in the middle of the Namib Desert: When you read why, you will lose the jaw
A (desert) true genius.
Right now reading others
Imagine being in the middle of the burning heat of the Namibian desert, surrounded by nothing other than dusty cliffs, sweat -dripping silence and horizons so barren that even camels would pinch their eyes together.
And then suddenly: a Barbie-pink refrigerator.
No, you haven’t been sunlit or see a fatam organ. The fridge is real. It works. And it’s full of cold drinks.
A glimpse of cool madness
The crunchy Nami mountain in southwestern Africa has been given a new and extremely photogenic attraction. A desert landscape, usually associated with thirst, sweat and dust, now contains a pastel color of modern madness – in the form of a functioning refrigerator, located on a hilltop overlooking the harsh terrain.
The idea comes from Namibia’s Tourism Agency, which has chosen to upgrade the classic image of an oasis: no date palms, no cameland – but in turn a solar -powered cooling unit packed with ice cold water and iced tea. Free. Yes, you read right.
Tourist magnet with power on top
About 20 minutes drive from the main road, which crosses the Nami Market from north to south, the miracle emerges. And although people were initially skeptical about the idea of taking a bottle from a mysterious refrigerator planted in the middle of nowhere, the global social media hype has transformed the place into an inevitable pit stop for adventurous.
With its location on top of a small hilltop, the pink cabinet has also evolved into a vantage point. From here you can enjoy sunsets that look like something from a food max movie with color filter. Next to it stands a few small metal chairs and a matching table – also in pink. And here’s good advice for the hot months: Check the surface before you sit down. Desertol and metal is a flammable cocktail.
Cold with way
Because the attraction has become so popular, you can’t count on drinks left if you first come by in the evening. The refrigerator is filled up several times a day, but it does not take long for thirsty tourists to empty the shelves.
But why exactly the color pink? We have not been able to find an answer to that.
