Then she went to the doctor and made scary discovery

Three pregnancies were lost before Zenia found the courage to shift focus.

She chose to participate in the program as a way of processing her grief. She set a personal goal of staying in the wilderness for 31 days.

The last day would coincide with the term her unborn child would have had. It became her quiet ritual.

Was not gripped by the doctor

For over a year, Zenia had had pain in the left side of the abdomen, but her practitioner repeatedly rejected her concerns.

Pain was « normal, » she was told. Referrals to further studies or fertility treatment were denied.

However, Zenia was convinced that something was wrong, which is why she chose to change a doctor.

Shortly after, she became pregnant again – this time outside the uterus – and had to be operated.

It was during the operation that the doctors made a discovery.

It turned out that she had a large cyst on the left ovary and it was probably to blame for the lost pregnancies and the pain.

In the midst of grief, Zenia found a way of expressing herself. She got a butterfly tattooed on her stomach – its one wing intact, the other broken.

The tattoo became part of her way of carrying the pain further, physically and emotionally.

Zenia has chosen to tell her story open-both in the TV program and on social media.
