American blogger Jenna Karvunidis is considered widely as the originator of the concept when she announced the gender of her datte in 2008 by cutting a cake. But even after almost 20 years of this concept, tradition is not without challenges – something Alex experienced this time.

At first, everything seemed to be going as planned, but that should change quickly.

« The baker we chose was so sweet, » Alex said.

« We were both very flexible in terms of pick-up and delivery times when she had asked for a postponement and they were so kind to accept my order in the middle of a business transition. »

Given the small scope of Alex's plans for the gender reveling it fit her perfectly.

« We didn't have a regular party or schedule to deal with, and with a winter storm on the way we just wrote back and forth to get the details in place, » she explained.

Alex estimates that they had had the cake in question in their possession for about 'one and a half days' before they finally cut it.

But an hour before it happened, she received a message that changed everything. It was a message from the baker that Alex has chosen not to name and which contained the crushing phrase: « Hey! Congratulations on having a boy. »

Because the message started with this sentence, it immediately appeared on Alex's phone screen when it came in.

« After five months when I had felt the child's small movements, I had fully convinced myself that we were expecting a third girl, » said Alex.

« So the shock of being congratulated with becoming a boy's mother via SMS an hour before we had to cut the cake, the tension and the expectation of the 'moment' suddenly stopped in an emotional downtime. »

In a video that was shared on Tiktok under the name @alexleseberg, Lese shared a screenshot of the message along with recordings of her tearful reaction while trying to gather, knowing that the surprise had not yet been revealed to her husband.
