The words that the wind does not take

In recent times because I have been working at the artist's house, I have been closely contacted not only with residents but also with people linked to the artistic environment who generously give their collaboration in that important project. Interesting, simple, true people, with whom I learn a lot and listening to life stories that have enriched my soul. One of them is called António Homem Cardoso. Knowing, experienced, creative man with a keen sense of humor and a brilliant career in the area of photography, where the colors of nature very early fascinated him, and also celebrated in the portrait of illustrious personalities of national and international life. With numerous works published the master man Cardoso awarded in 2023 by the President of the Republic with the degree of Commander of the Order of Infante, is today a reference in the field.
And as alongside a great man is always a great woman, the ladybug is the pillar of her life. When one day I questioned him about his work, he answered me curiously: « It is no photographer who wants, it is photographer who he is. » This expression of much deeper meaning than the outset may seem, would be reproduced by itself in the interview granted to Fatima Campos Ferreira that RTP broadcast on January 15 in the First Person program. When using that thought, it is implicit that, to make photography, you must have cream qualities to give you life, that is, own and genuine skills that are born with the person. Taking into those words and adapting them to real life is easily come to the conclusion that for all professions it is essential to have such particular characteristics to exercise them correctly. But, it is not always like that. On one side we find those who 'are' in the purest sense of the word. On the other are the ones who 'want to be' and, in most cases, as much as they can take, they can never get there. Not everyone can be painters, pianists, actors, doctors, soccer players and others and it is necessary to accept it naturally. Bad is when their eyes close to their basic skills and try to confuse things 'fixing them' in the wrong place.
The market is full of people who 'want to be' and those who really 'are' often are the way. My professional field is a good example. Let's see: You go into medicine through controversial and highly debatable criteria, where you only look at very high averages or economic capacity to look for alternatives at private colleges in Portugal or abroad. Then follows the choice of specialty and good candidates for certain areas are often required to follow other ways quite different from their skills. Hence I launch my appeal: start selecting candidates first with psychotechnical tests, just as they 'are' who 'want to be' and only then, if necessary, to resort to other tiebreaker criteria. It is more than proven that many problems with everyday work, both in medicine and any other sector, are due to the fact that they are not the right people in the right places and continuing to ignore this reality is a serious mistake that in some cases pays well expensive. In this context, a question if you offer me ask: who is currently in the National Health Service? Who 'is' for him and identifies with his principles and with his guidelines or 'who wants to' there is no other possibility of choice?
Thank you Master Men Cardoso for everything I have learned from you. Learning from the experience of the elders helps us grow. Your work will be to history and your words loaded with wisdom will never be forgotten. These are words that are not lost in time. These are words that the wind does not carry.
