The Security Service of Ukraine says the suspect in the attack on the volunteer and activist Sergei Sternenko was published by Russian special services.

Details: The special service confirmed that the detained-a 45-year-old native of Odessa region, who lived in the capital. At the end of last year, she was remotely recruited by Russian special services when she was looking for « quick earnings » on the Internet, they say in the SBU.

According to the case file, at first, at the request of curators, she kept observing certain cars, photographed them and transmitted information to her « contact ».
Subsequently, according to the investigation, the agent began to receive new tasks. In particular, according to the instructions of her curator, she had to make a homemade explosive device, as well as changed his place of residence – moving to an apartment in the central part of Kiev.
Since mid -April, the figure began to follow Sternenko, settling in one residential complex.
Later, she received the coordinates of the « Shrone », which hidden firearms – a pistol of the PM model and the ammunition.
On the morning of May 1, 2025, the curator instructed her to kill the activist near his apartment. Thanks to previous observations, the malefactors were already known the car brand and the approximate time when the volunteer leaves his home.
At the time of Sternenko’s exit from the house, the Russian agent fired several shots: one of the balls hit him. The SBU says that the attacker « was immediately detained on the site of » her employees.
As a result of the searches, she found a phone with evidence of work on the Russian Federation, as well as components to the homemade explosive device, which she stored in another apartment.
The pre -trial investigation of the SBU is ongoing. Comprehensive measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the crime and prosecute the perpetrators.
Investigators of the Security Services of Ukraine reported suspicion malefactors. The involvement is charged with a state treason, committed in martial law and a completed assassination attempt for selfish motives, committed to order, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons.
The detainee faces up to 15 years in prison.
