The Washington Post Analyzer Editor has left for disagreement with Bezos

The editor of the page with opinions and analyzes of Washington Post David Shipley leaves the newspaper, as his views section displaces his focus to support and protect the topics for personal freedoms and free markets. Amazon owner Jeff Bezos wrote this in a letter to staff on Wednesday.

The section will cover other topics, but it will not publish perspectives that oppose these two pillars, writes Bezos. Shipley rejected Bezos' proposal to remain, writes the billionaire quoted by Reuters.

This move – which reflects the narrowing of the POST focus from a section with an opinion of a common interest that reflects a wide range of views – follows the decision of the newspaper in October to suspend decades of practice to support presidential candidates immediately before the election.

In his note to the staff on Wednesday, Bezos argues the change from both ideological and pragmatic positions, writing that these perspectives are insufficiently available on the market.

« I am from America and to America and I am proud to be like that, » Bezos wrote. « Our country has not reached this, being » typical. « And much of America's success is freedom in the economic sphere and everywhere else. »

The changes were protected by CEO and publisher William Louis, who joined the newspaper in early 2024 after working for magazines controlled by Rupert Murdoch.

« This is not about borrowing the country of any political party. It is about being crystal clear about what we are protecting as a newspaper, » Lewis wrote in a letter to the staff seen by Reuters.

Bezos is one of the several technology leaders who are believed to have been making outraits to President Donald Trump in recent months. He was prominent during Trump's inauguration, emphasizing changing ties with the president.

However, the growing proximity annoyed some of the publication subscribers.

The newspaper lost more than 200,000 digital subscription after its decision not to support a presidential candidate. This decision also prompted three members of the editorial board of to resign in protest, according to a newspaper publication.

« The massive entry of Jeff Bezos in the Washington Post opinion section today it is clear that disagreements will not be published or tolerated there, » said the economic reporter of the White House newspaper Jeff Stein in an X.

The Post and Analysis section is separate from the rest of the editorial, which is collected by the news with a focus on fact -based reports.
