The visit of the President of the Council of the European Union Antonio Costa in Skopje next week is another strong signal of EU priorities. The fact that he is visiting the Western Balkans, what comes to Skopje, is proof that we are ready to expand – says Polish Ambassador to the country Mariusz Bramora, whose country is the current EU presidency in an interview with MIA.

« From my perspective, I can also mention that our Prime Minister Donald Tusk will visit Skopje in the next few months and this will be another signal that we care about Northern Macedonia, that we support the state, that the presidency, the EU Council supports the process of opening negotiations and that is a strong sign that we will wait.

He emphasized that political will is needed, it is necessary to complete the reforms in Macedonia and maintain the enthusiasm for EU membership.

-Political will is needed, it is necessary to complete the reforms in Northern Macedonia, and we need to secure ourselves, I think of politicians here, that they will not lose the support of Macedonian society for EU membership, because we already know from public opinion polls that this support is going down, because society is already tiring. That is why we must be very careful not to lose the support of society. Fortunately, the latest public opinion polls that were published just weeks ago, I think they were still at a slightly over 60 percent so that we must use that enthusiasm – says Ambassador Bremorrhyra in the interview.

He emphasizes that at the moment, the European Commission, Brussels, the presidency, is prepared for the enlargement process.

-The returns are open. This is a very favorable momentum for candidate countries. Problems with the world today, the volatility we mentioned, unpredictability, the thing is that such a moment can not last forever. So, the task of the Government of Northern Macedonia is to take advantage of this momentum as long as it lasts – says Bremorra.
