Mo Harawes film wins the main categories at this year’s film award. For the favorite biopic about the painter Maria Lassnig, Birgit Minichmayr won the « best female leading role ».

Anja Salomonowitz ‘film « With a tiger sleep » was considered the favorite for this year’s Austrian Film Award. At the awarding on the evening of June 12, Mo Harawe’s « The Village Next to Paradise » prevailed over « Sleep with a tiger » in the main categories. In total, both films won five prizes.

Director and screenwriter Mo Harawe secured awards for « best director » and « best script ». His colleague Mostafa El Kashef won in the « Best Camera » category, Mohamed Mohamud Jama for « Best Casting ». The producer duo Sabine Moser and Oliver Neumann were able to represent the production « Best feature film » for the production.

« Moon » as a loser of the evening

The actress Birgit Minichmayr was awarded the jury as the « best female leading actress » for her role as Maria Lassnig in « With a tiger sleep ». The film also received prizes in the categories « Best Masking Picture » (Sam Dopona, Verena Pellegrini), « Best Scene Picture » (Martin Reiter, Andreas Ertl), « Best Music » (Bernhard Fleischmann) and « Best Ton Design » (Hjalti Bager-Jonathansson, Johannes Baumann, Veronika Hlawatsch and Tobias Fleig).

The big loser of the evening is the filmmaker Kurdwin Ayub with her film « Moon ». The drama was nominated eight times about a martial artist in Jordan with Florentina Holzinger in the leading role. There were no prizes – although the film in Locarno was awarded the big jury award.

For the seven -fold -nominated film « Andrea can be divorced » by Josef Hader, Thomas Schubert won the award for the « Best Male People. » Ruth Beckermann’s “Favorites” was awarded in the “Best Documentary” category. Albrecht Schuch won the « best male leading actor » for his role as a friendly service provider in the German-Austrian production « Pfau-I am real ». For the film « Gina », Gerti Drassl won an award as « the best female supporting actress. »

« 80 plus » as the highest audience film

Anaïs Horn and Marcus Karkhof were delighted for the social satire « Veni Vidi Vici » about « Best Costume Picture », Andrea Wagner (« Dear Beautiful Beloved ») about « Best Montage ». The best Austrian short film this year was called « Land of the Mountains », a film about a father in conflict with Austrian right to stay by director Olga Kosanović. The comedy « 80 Plus » was declared the most public film of the year. (Red.)
